Resource Sites

Here are some links to what I consider to be some great sites I highly recommend.

Christian Courier  (This site is owned and run by Wayne Jackson who does the writing found on it.  I don’t know where you would go to find more scholarly Christian articles on the web.  The man does his homework which means he does extensive research before he starts writing.  All of this will be readily evident to you once you read an article or two of his.  Not only does he know the Bible he also knows what men are saying about it.)

Walking by Faith:  Origin of Instrumental Music in Christian Worship  (This is an online copy of what was once a pamphlet consisting of two sermons delivered in the late 1800′s by M. C. Kurfees.  Gives the best definition of faith I have ever read making a clear distinction between faith and opinion and then makes the application to the use of instrumental music.  If there was not a word in this pamphlet [I have it in pamphlet form] on the subject of instrumental music it would be worth its weight in gold just in the discussion on faith and opinion.)

The Sonship of Christ  (Be sure and scroll down the page once you get to it.  This is an extremely unique and valuable one of a kind sermon.  It details the relationship of Christ the Son with God the Father like nothing else I have ever read, a late 1800′s sermon by Dr. T. W. Brents.)

Short Essays in Biblical Criticism  (Have you ever had to deal with someone who would ridicule or find fault with the Bible or a particular account or passage found in it?  J. W. McGarvey was an expert in taking on the modernists of his day.  The London Times reportedly called him the greatest Bible scholar of the age.  Short Essays in Biblical Criticism are essays McGarvey wrote that were published in the Christian Standard in the years 1893-1904 answering the Bible critics.  When you get to the site you navigate it by the “NEXT” link in the upper left hand corner.)

A Commentary on Acts of the Apostles  (Many consider this the best commentary on Acts ever written.  This commentary is by the same J. W. McGarvey just mentioned above.  The commentary was first written in 1863 according to what is written across the top of the page.  You navigate the book by means of the links found in the upper left hand corner of the page.  I have personally read through this commentary page by page.  It is outstanding and can still be purchased in hard copy form.)

Instrumental Music in the Worship  (Published in 1911 and written by M. C. Kurfees.  As soon as you click the link here you will see the contents outlined so you can immediately go to the chapter that interests you the most.  A pretty exhaustive study and covers about every aspect of the subject.)

Baptism  (A sermon by J. W. McGarvey on the subject taking an approach to its study that is unusual and one I have not taken in any of the writing I have done on the topic.  Another late 1800′s sermon.)

The Course to Pursue to be Infallibly Safe  (A sermon by Benjamin Franklin, no not that one but they were related.  A great sermon for who would not want to be infallibly safe?  This is one sermon from a book of sermons that can still be purchased entitled, The Gospel Preacher, Vol. I by Benjamin Franklin.  This one sermon book may well have had more influence on me than any other that I have ever read and I have read many.  I believe the book of sermons, of which this sermon was one of twenty, was first published in 1869.  In any case it is free online now at:  http://www.mun.ca/rels/restmov/texts/bfranklin/tgp1/TGP00.HTM.)

The Audio Sermons of Bob Swain  (Bob is the son of Waymon Swain and an excellent preacher in his own right.)
